FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DANCE COMPANIES LINE UP FOR A FULL PRODUCTION

Anyone who likes to dance might say that there’s a care-free moment when you just feel connected – to the music, to the movement, and to other dancers. It is this kind of connection that can be experienced at “Line Up,” a multi-company dance production organized by Dancing with Long Beach. On Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 5:00pm and 8:00pm, a full night of dance featuring two separate programs will be presented at the Long Beach Playhouse, 5021 E. Anaheim Street, Long Beach, CA 90804. Tickets are $12 for one show and can be purchased at LBplayhouse.org. For discounted package tickets, $20 for both shows, call the box office at 562-494-1014, extension 1.

“Line Up” is a call to dancers, choreographers, and dance enthusiasts to come together and connect. This evening of dance will feature 14 dance companies performing almost 20 pieces in two separate programs at 5:00pm and 8:00pm. Each program will conclude with an interactive audience Q&A with choreographers.

“This is going to be a fun evening of dance for everyone! The local community and dance enthusiasts will enjoy a fun variety of dance expressions. Choreographers and dancers alike will receive the opportunity to see work from colleagues and to connect with other companies,” said Christina Domino, an organizer of the production and also a participating dance choreographer.

Dancing with Long Beach is a collaborative project of the Catalyst Network of Communities that includes partners DatuganDanceTheatre, Domino Affect Dance Company, and Trade&Row. The mission is to create spaces for dance communities to teach, exhibit, and exchange with each other and the Long Beach community. The partners of the project are striving to see Long Beach as a hub that connects a supportive dance community to excited audiences.

Featured dance companies for “Line Up” include DatuganDanceTheatre, Domino Affect Dance Company, Tropicaleiza, Esencia Flamenca Dance, Nickerson-Rossi Dance, ArchiTexture Dance Company, Malice Dreaming, Rebekah Davidson, Dorcas Roman Dance Theater, Robert Scott Dance Company, Kenneth Walker Dance Project, Southern California Dance Theater, Elevation Dance Studio, and Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre. These companies are lining up from throughout Southern California to participate in the production. “Line Up” is sponsored in part by the Arts Council for Long Beach and will be a contribution to GLOBAL Arts Month.

Dancing with Long Beach

Dancing with Long Beach (DWLB)” is a collaborative project of the Catalyst Network of Communities that includes partners DatuganDanceTheatre, Domino Affect Dance Company, and Trade&Row. The mission is to create spaces for dance communities to teach, exhibit, and exchange with each other and the Long Beach community. The partners of the project are striving to see Long Beach as a hub that connects a supportive dance community to excited audiences.

Dancing with Long Beach was inspired, in part, by renowned dancer and choreographer Nejla Y. Yatkin of NY2Dance who has been dancing with cities around the world for many years. She says, "Instead of trying to get the people into the theatres, we first have to bring the dance to the people and invoke their curiosity. Take the dance to them and make it part of their lives."

With those inspiring words, we strive to bring dance to the people of Long Beach. Will you join us?
